BBNaija's Queen Mercy Atang Fights Back: "I Was Called Prostitute" Over Marriage Crash Rumours
Queen Mercy Atang Tackles Critics Over Marriage Crash Reports

Former Big Brother Naija reality star, Queen Mercy Atang, has finally spoken out against a wave of online rumours and personal attacks targeting her marriage, lifestyle, and character. This comes after widespread speculation that her one-year union with her husband, David, had collapsed.

Breaking Her Silence on Social Media

In a lengthy and emotional post shared on her Instagram page on Monday, December 7, 2025, Queen revealed the extent of the public vitriol she has faced. She disclosed that she has been labelled with a series of demeaning names, including "prostitute" and "unfit wife." The media personality expressed her exhaustion with remaining silent while strangers constructed false narratives about her personal life.

She expressed particular shock at claims that people "in the U.S." were spreading stories about her, insisting these reports were baseless. Queen clarified her history with the United States, stating she only visited once between 2017 and 2018, long before her rise to fame. During that trip, she stayed briefly with a relative in Houston before travelling to Florida for a pageant.

"So where exactly did your 'USA people' see me and decide I was a prostitute?" she questioned in her post, wondering how such stories could originate from individuals who have never met her or interacted with her family.

Addressing Rumours About Her Motivations

Queen Mercy Atang also took time to dismiss another pervasive rumour. She firmly denied allegations that she posted photos of her husband on social media to spite the father of her child. She emphasised that she has never publicly discussed her child's father and that her decision to share her wedding joy was genuine.

She explained that her posts about her marriage were driven purely by the excitement of being a newlywed. The reality TV star added that if her husband had chosen not to share their wedding photos, she would have quietly posted hers without ever revealing the identity of her baby daddy.

Queen acknowledged that her decision to respond publicly might upset her family, but she stated she is "done trying to be a good girl" and vowed to live freely and speak her truth despite public judgment.

Netizens React to Queen's Emotional Post

The post quickly garnered significant attention and mixed reactions from Nigerian social media users. While some offered support and prayers for her marriage, others questioned her approach as a public figure.

One user, @harbidemmy_johnson, commented with support, recalling her positive testimony about meeting her husband and describing him as a "godly man." Another, @zaynahb_zy, criticised the audacity of people commenting on her life, suggesting that often "no one actually said nothing."

However, not all feedback was sympathetic. User @glogele.fashion reminded Queen that she is a public figure and advised her to "work it out with that man," noting that many were happy when she got married.

This incident is not the first time Queen has publicly addressed concerns about her marriage. Legit.ng previously reported that the BBNaija star had cried out over the nature of direct messages other women were sending to her husband's social media account, which also sparked a series of reactions from fans.
