Content creator Tunde Perry has provided a fresh update on the arrest of popular TikTok star Peller, who has been in police custody since Friday following a confrontation with officers over a missing vehicle registration plate. Perry publicly appealed to Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu to forgive and release the young streamer, emphasizing that his management team has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to secure his freedom.
Details of the Incident
Legit.ng earlier reported that Peller clashed with police officers after being stopped for driving a newly acquired car without a registered number plate. Videos shared online showed a heated roadside argument between the TikTok star and law enforcement personnel. During an Instagram Live session following the incident, Peller explained that the car had just been purchased and the registration process was incomplete. He alleged that officers dragged his shirt and pointed a gun at him during the encounter.
In a video from a recent live session circulating on social media, Tunde Perry confirmed that Peller has remained in detention since Friday. He praised Peller’s manager, Tekunbi, for his relentless efforts to secure the streamer’s release. “Peller management hasn’t slept; they’ve been going up and down to get him out. Tekunbi, God bless you for all your efforts,” Perry said.
Appeal to the Inspector-General
Perry directly addressed IGP Tunji Disu, urging him to show leniency. “IGP said if you don’t have a plate number you should be arrested. Please IGP Tunji Disu forgive Peller and release him, he is a small boy,” Perry pleaded. He also advised Nigerians to respect police and government authorities, warning that minor disputes can escalate unnecessarily. “Don’t drag with police; something you’ll settle in 10 minutes; if you drag it with police, it’ll take 10 days or 1 year to solve. After God is the Government,” he added.
While Perry claims Peller remains in custody, the Nigeria Police have not officially confirmed his detention or announced any charges at the time of this report.
Public Reactions
Social media users expressed mixed reactions to the incident. Some criticized Peller’s approach, with user @jummyluv_54209 commenting, “That is why it is good to be calm in all situations… he should just let go the other day cos those police guys no get joy.” Another user, @facts_009, wrote, “If them call am olodo now many Mumu go dey zwor up and down you nor get plate number you dey disrespect police. First the police men nor first be your mate to start with.”
Others pointed out inconsistencies in law enforcement. @sarahs_update noted, “Make dem go other state. Police and soldiers dey do convoy, the vehicles no get plate numbers, and the glasses fully tinted. Yet, na ordinary citizens the law dey always catch. The law should apply to everyone, not just one side.”
Previous Support from Victor Osimhen
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen pledged support for Peller’s upcoming wedding. During a video call, Osimhen congratulated Peller and his partner, Jarvis, and offered prayers for the couple. He asked the streamer to send his bank account details and Aso Ebi package, stating that his representatives would attend the event even if his football schedule prevents him from being there in person.
