Prominent Nigerian businessman and philanthropist, Chief Obinna Iyiegbu, widely known as Obi Cubana, has made a significant pledge to drive increased investment and development to Oba community in Anambra State. This commitment followed his conferment with a prestigious traditional chieftaincy title.
A Title of Honour and Responsibility
The event took place on 11 January 2026 in Oba, located within the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. During the maiden edition of the 2025 Ofala Festival of Oba, the traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty, Engr. Sir Augustine Chinedu Emelobe (the Igwe of Oba), bestowed upon Obi Cubana the title of Okpataozueora I of Oba.
The monarch, who is also known as Igwe Onyilingugba, Eze Orazuluchie, described Cubana as an illustrious son whose accomplishments have brought great honour to the ancient kingdom. He explained that the title, which symbolizes broadmindedness, community upliftment, courage, and excellence, was awarded in recognition of Cubana's proven contributions to human capital development, youth empowerment, and the promotion of Igbo cultural heritage.
Cubana's Pledge to Oba and Anambra State
In his acceptance speech, Obi Cubana, who is the Chairman of the Cubana Group, expressed deep gratitude for the honour. He framed the title not just as an accolade, but as a call to higher service for his people.
"I am profoundly grateful to the Igwe, the Oba Traditional Council, and the entire community," he stated. Cubana went on to reaffirm his dedication, pledging to remain steadfast in his mission to attract greater goodwill, investment, and development opportunities to Oba and the wider Anambra State.
A Call for Unity and Continued Support
The colourful ceremony, filled with rich cultural displays, also served as a platform for the royal father to rally support for the new titleholder. Igwe Emelobe called on all sons and daughters of Oba, both at home and in the diaspora, to accord Obi Cubana the respect befitting his new status.
He specifically applauded Cubana's sustained commitment to social impact projects and economic development, which have had positive effects within and beyond Oba land. This chieftaincy event underscores Obi Cubana's growing influence as a key cultural ambassador and philanthropist of his generation, with a impact that resonates across business, community development, and Igbo tradition.
