Aba Fashion Cluster Faces Critical Gaps as TFG 2026 Event Approaches

Significant challenges persist in Aba's fashion production ecosystem, with thousands of local producers lacking access to essential resources including finance, intellectual property protection, skills certification, and market linkages. These persistent gaps come into sharp focus as stakeholders prepare to convene in Aba for the second edition of The Fashion Games (TFG 2026), scheduled for April 28 to 29 in Abia State.

Addressing Systemic Challenges Through Strategic Events

Organised by Ethnocentrique Limited, TFG 2026 is expected to bring together approximately 10,000 fashion producers, buyers, policymakers, and enthusiasts. The event aims to create a comprehensive framework that transforms existing creativity into sustainable enterprise by connecting various stakeholders across government, private sector, and apprenticeship systems.

Irunna Ejibe, Chief Executive Officer of Ethnocentrique Limited, emphasized that their organization is actively building this framework to bridge critical gaps within the fashion ecosystem. "We are creating enterprise from existing creativity by linking all relevant stakeholders," Ejibe stated, highlighting how initiatives like TFG and the Fashion Future Programme (FFP) have already produced graduates and connected producers to buyers.

Building on Previous Success and Future Potential

The 2025 edition of The Fashion Games demonstrated significant impact, recording 4,500 attendees, engaging 1,400 Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and graduating 2,000 participants through the FFP implemented in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation. These achievements provide a foundation for the upcoming 2026 event.

Jeremiah Ubunamah, Chief Operating Officer of Ethnocentrique Limited, outlined the substantial economic potential of the Aba fashion production cluster. "With adequate financing, proper intellectual property systems, and improved market infrastructure, the Aba fashion cluster could grow into a $3 billion market within five to ten years," Ubunamah projected, underscoring the transformative opportunity at hand.

TFG 2026 Event Structure and Activities

Themed "AHIA 360," TFG 2026 will feature a comprehensive two-day program designed to address multiple aspects of the fashion ecosystem. The first day will focus on industry sessions for buyers, policymakers, and MSMEs, including exhibitions and financing pitches to facilitate direct business connections.

The second day will transition to a public showcase at the Enyimba International Stadium, featuring graduation ceremonies for program participants, cluster parades highlighting different production areas, and runway presentations showcasing local fashion talent. This dual approach aims to balance business development with public engagement and celebration of local creativity.

As Aba prepares to host this significant gathering, the fashion community faces both substantial challenges and remarkable opportunities. The success of TFG 2026 could prove instrumental in transforming persistent gaps into sustainable growth pathways for thousands of local producers.
