In a deeply emotional and devastating revelation, former Chelsea youth academy player Lamisha Musonda has informed the world that he is in the final stages of a terminal illness, stating he may only have 'a few days left' to live.
A Heartbreaking Final Message
The 33-year-old Belgian footballer shared the tragic news directly with his followers via an Instagram post. Musonda disclosed that he has been locked in a gruelling two-year battle with an undisclosed illness, a fight that has now left his health in a critical condition.
"As I realise I only have a few days left, I also realise I had a lot of people by my side, and I’ll always cherish the memories," he wrote. The former athlete reflected on the unpredictable nature of life, adding, "Life is hard, but the view is great."
A Football Career Cut Short
Lamisha Musonda's football journey began at the famed academy of Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht. His talent earned him a move to the prestigious Chelsea FC youth setup in 2012, where he spent formative years developing his skills.
His professional career, however, was relatively brief. He represented clubs including Mechelen in Belgium, as well as Spanish sides Llagostera B and Palamos, before a stint with TP Mazembe. Musonda also earned nine caps for the Belgian Under-21 national team between 2011 and 2013. He made the difficult decision to retire from professional football in 2019 at the age of just 27.
Football runs in the Musonda family. His younger brother, Charles Musonda Jr., also rose through the Chelsea ranks and made seven first-team appearances for the Blues before departing the club in 2022.
A Plea for Support and Prayer
In his poignant message, Musonda explained his prolonged absence from social media, linking it directly to his deteriorating health. "It is with sadness that I must inform you that I’ve been struggling trying to get my health back to normal," he stated.
He bravely acknowledged the severity of his situation: "I had to come to grips that my health is in a critical condition, and I am now just fighting to stay alive." The former player expressed profound gratitude for the people in his life while mourning missed opportunities, saying, "So many wonderful people I wish I had the chance to thank, face to face."
Ending his message with a final request for support, he wrote, "I would greatly appreciate your help and prayers in this period. My family and I are fighting, and I won’t quit until it is time for my last breath." His words have since sparked an outpouring of grief and support from the global football community.
