Free Medical Program Restores Hope to 2,000 Beneficiaries in Delta State
A five-day free medical check-up and eye surgery program organized by the Esther Matthew Tonlagha Foundation in Oporoza, Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State, has brought renewed hope and essential healthcare services to more than 2,000 beneficiaries from communities within and outside the state. The initiative, powered by Maton Engineering Nigeria Limited, has been widely praised by participants for its impactful support at the grassroots level, addressing critical health needs and improving access to medical treatment for vulnerable populations.
Beneficiaries Express Gratitude for Life-Changing Support
Chief Victoria Eguene from Gbaramatu Kingdom commended the Foundation for providing free medical treatment to residents, stating, "We wish to express our heartfelt appreciation to the Foundation for giving us hope through the treatments we have received over these five days. I particularly thank the founder, Dr Esther Tonlagha, for her humanitarian nature, from which many of us are now benefitting." Another participant, Mr Jayman Jemi, an artisan living with high blood pressure, shared his positive experience, noting that after years of managing his condition without relief, the program offered him strong hope for improvement. He added, "My experience here confirms that mummy Tonlagha is a mother to many, giving her best through the organisation to support those in need."
Foundation's Mission and Impact on Community Health
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Dr Esther Matthew Tonlagha, the founder of the Foundation, explained that the program was designed to support individuals facing health challenges who lack access to treatment due to financial constraints and other barriers. She emphasized that the initiative aims to reduce health risks associated with untreated conditions, which can limit individuals' ability to contribute to society. "We are pleased that this programme, which aligns with the core mission of our Foundation, has brought hope to nearly 2,000 registered beneficiaries. Our work is guided by three pillars—empowerment, access and sustainability—focused on supporting vulnerable groups at state and national levels," she said.
Call for Collaboration and Sustainable Healthcare Solutions
Tonlagha called on governments and development partners to strengthen collaboration in improving primary healthcare in rural communities through technical and financial support. Over the years, the Foundation has remained committed to its focus on empowerment, access, and sustainability, with programs aimed at equipping individuals with practical skills, expanding access to opportunities, and ensuring lasting benefits for communities. This latest medical intervention follows similar initiatives by the Foundation over the past three years, including funding support for 30 women entrepreneurs, free medical support for 200 sickle cell patients, and assistance for students to develop technical skills, demonstrating a holistic approach to community development and health improvement.
