Osun's FUHSI Hosts International Workshop on Public Health for Hearing and Vision Care

The Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun (FUHSI), located in Osun State, successfully conducted a three-day International Training Workshop on Public Health Planning for Hearing and Vision Impairment (PHPHVI) from April 13 to 15, 2026. This significant event brought together a diverse group of global experts, policymakers, and health professionals with the primary goal of enhancing capacity and formulating practical strategies to improve hearing and vision care, especially in low-resource environments.

Vice-Chancellor Emphasizes Integration of Sensory Health

Declaring the workshop open, the Vice-Chancellor of FUHSI, Prof. Akeem Lasisi, underscored the critical importance of integrating sensory health into public health systems to achieve inclusive and sustainable healthcare. He highlighted that addressing hearing and vision impairments is essential for holistic health outcomes and community well-being.

Distinguished International Faculty Leads Sessions

The training featured a panel of distinguished international faculty members who led comprehensive sessions. Key presenters included Dr. Okolo Oteri from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Nigeria, Dr. Diego Santana representing CBM Global from Spain, and Professor Andrew Smith from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine in the United Kingdom. Their sessions covered essential topics such as public health principles, effective training methodologies, and the implementation of Primary Ear and Hearing Care (PEHC).
