Reckitt West Africa Champions Hygiene Amidst Scorching Heatwave
Reckitt West Africa has strongly emphasized the critical importance of maintaining proper hygiene habits, particularly for commuters and fitness enthusiasts who face constant exposure to intense heat and perspiration. This message comes as Nigeria grapples with a severe heatwave, raising concerns about health and safety.
Launch of OwnTheSweat2.0 Campaign
Boma Harrison, the Marketing Director of Reckitt West Africa, unveiled the second edition of the company's initiative, dubbed OwnTheSweat2.0. This campaign is driven through Dettol Cool Soap and aims to promote an active lifestyle while encouraging protection against germs and body odour. Harrison explained that the campaign directly addresses the daily realities in Nigeria, where a significant portion of the population commutes in temperatures ranging from 25°C to 35°C, making sweating a frequent and unavoidable experience.
Nationwide Activations and Engagements
The campaign will feature a series of activations across major Nigerian cities, including Lagos, Abuja, Kano, and Port Harcourt. Over the next two months, pop-up events will be hosted in selected gyms, offering immersive games and fitness challenges designed to test endurance, agility, and confidence. These activities are intended to reinforce the importance of hygiene in active lifestyles, ensuring that individuals can stay protected while pushing their physical limits.
Extending to Educational Institutions
In addition to gym engagements, the initiative will extend to schools through a Cool School Pop-up. This program is aimed at instilling healthy hygiene habits among students from an early age, introducing them to the benefits of freshness, protection, and confidence. By targeting young learners, Reckitt West Africa hopes to foster long-term hygiene practices that can withstand the challenges posed by Nigeria's climate.
Product Benefits and Consumer Response
Harrison highlighted that Dettol Cool Soap is specially formulated to provide up to 99% germ protection, along with a cooling sensation that can lower skin temperature by up to 5°C. It also offers long-lasting defence against body odour, making it ideal for individuals on the move. She noted that the success of the previous edition demonstrated that Nigerians with active lifestyles are eager to embrace products that combine effective hygiene with enhanced confidence.
Brand Commitment and Future Goals
The OwnTheSweat2.0 campaign is designed to expand its reach through both gym and school engagements, creating more opportunities for Nigerians to embrace movement, challenge themselves, and remain confident while staying protected. Harrison emphasized that this initiative reinforces the brand's commitment to supporting Nigerians with active, on-the-go lifestyles by offering reliable germ protection and a cooling experience suited to the country's hot climate.
