Ondo Monarch Donates 4D Ultrasound, Offers Free Healthcare

A philanthropic foundation in Ondo State has delivered a significant boost to local healthcare services through a major equipment donation and a large-scale medical outreach program.

Foundation Donates Lifesaving Equipment to Igbokoda Hospital

The Oba Micah and Olori Moronke Ajijo Foundation formally presented a state-of-the-art 4D Doppler ultrasound machine to the Ondo State General Hospital in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Council Area. The donation ceremony took place on the hospital grounds on 12 January 2026.

President of the foundation, Yetunde Obuotor, emphasized that the advanced machine is more than just equipment. "An ultrasound machine is not just a piece of equipment; it is a lifeline," she stated. Obuotor explained that the device will strengthen diagnostic capabilities, particularly in critical areas like maternal and child health, emergency care, and the early detection of various medical conditions.

Large-Scale Free Medical Outreach Benefits Indigent Residents

Alongside the equipment donation, the foundation organized a free medical outreach that provided services to over 1,000 indigent residents of the state. The program was designed to address a wide range of health issues common in the community.

Dr. Babatunde Akinbinu, the doctor in charge of the outreach and Public Secretary of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Ondo State, detailed the exercise. "Healthcare is not a one-off thing," Dr. Akinbinu noted, highlighting the challenge of managing chronic illnesses. He warned that without sustained resources, patients might abandon proper medication for unsafe traditional remedies.

The medical team, consisting of over 40 healthcare workers including specialist doctors and nurses, screened and treated patients for conditions such as:

  • Hypertension
  • Diabetes
  • Malaria
  • Peptic ulcer
  • Eye-related ailments

Services were comprehensively provided for geriatric, adult, and paediatric patients.

Inspired by Legacy, Formalized for Greater Impact

Folashade Ajijo, the foundation's secretary of the board of trustees, shared that the initiative was inspired by the legacy of their parents, Oba Micah and Olori Moronke Ajijo, who were natives deeply committed to community service. While the family has long been involved in philanthropy, the foundation was recently formalized to ensure greater accountability, structure, and sustainable impact.

The Ondo State Government hailed the intervention. Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, described the donation and outreach as a major boost to healthcare delivery. He stressed the need for proper use and maintenance of the 4D ultrasound machine, calling it a valuable investment for long-term patient benefit.

Receiving the equipment, the Chief Medical Director of Igbokoda General Hospital, Dr. Edino Ezekiel, confirmed that the machine is one of the most advanced diagnostic tools now available in the area and will significantly improve service delivery at the facility.
