PRP Calls for Tinubu's Resignation Over Rising Insecurity in Nigeria
PRP Calls for Tinubu's Resignation Over Insecurity

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has called on President Bola Tinubu to step down from office, accusing his administration of failing to guarantee the safety and security of Nigerians. In a statement issued on Thursday, the party's chairman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, asserted that the President had clearly failed in his primary constitutional duty to protect citizens from violent crime and insecurity.

Insecurity Worsens Under Tinubu

According to Baba-Ahmed, insecurity has deteriorated significantly across the country under Tinubu's leadership, with Nigerians from all walks of life increasingly falling victim to criminal attacks. He stated, "It is now beyond any doubt that President Bola Tinubu has failed woefully in discharging his prime responsibility as Nigerian President, which is to secure the Nigerian citizen." The PRP chairman emphasized that threats to national security have expanded rather than diminished, and no part of the country can now be considered safe.

No Nigerian Is Safe

The statement highlighted that from generals to toddlers, and from Bama to Badagry, no Nigerian is safe under the current leadership. It noted that it is no longer the case that only parts of the country have been virtually surrendered to criminals; now, every Nigerian in every region is unprotected from rampant violent criminals who exploit the nation's weaknesses. The statement added, "School children have joined the long stretch of soft targets, and the nation appears to be at the point of accepting this situation as normal. We must not submit to weakness of leaders and the exploits of criminals."

Call for Resignation

Baba-Ahmed argued that President Tinubu has amassed enormous power around the presidency but has failed to use it to protect and defend Nigerians. He stated, "In most other democracies, President Tinubu's failure to respect the values of accountability and responsibility would not have been tolerated. Nigerians must rise to demand an end to this ineptitude and indifference. President Tinubu should resign, now." The PRP chairman lamented that schoolchildren have become vulnerable targets of criminal groups and warned against normalizing widespread insecurity and violence.

Demand for Change

He maintained that Nigerians facing threats from violent criminals cannot afford to wait until the 2027 general elections to seek a change in leadership. According to him, there is nothing democratic about allowing incompetent leadership to remain in office while citizens continue to suffer the consequences of worsening insecurity. Baba-Ahmed called on all Nigerians to unite in demanding an end to what he termed ineptitude and indifference in the country's leadership.
