Former ADC Chairman Ralph Nwosu Slams INEC for Undermining Rule of Law
Ralph Nwosu, the former chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has broken his silence in a scathing critique of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In a recent interview, Nwosu accused INEC of acting outside legal boundaries and undermining Nigeria's democratic processes, describing the commission's actions as a major disgrace to the legal profession.
Nwosu's Strong Condemnation of INEC Leadership
Nwosu expressed deep frustration with INEC's conduct, particularly in relation to the derecognition of his party. He stated, "I have not seen any INEC that could just take law into their hands and scandalize the entire system. For INEC leadership to decide to truncate the law to please the party in power is both irresponsible and a shame for that matter. It is a disgrace." He went further to call for the removal of the INEC chairman, arguing that such actions tarnish the integrity of the legal field and demand immediate accountability.
Confirmation of Nafiu Bala's Resignation from ADC
In addition to his criticism of INEC, Nwosu addressed the resignation of Nafiu Bala, who previously served as deputy management chairman under his leadership. Nwosu confirmed that Bala resigned from the ADC and his position, with all necessary documentation provided to INEC. "Nafiu Bala resigned from ADC. We have all the forensics. He resigned from ADC and he resigned as deputy management chairman. I have the letter. INEC has the letter. And INEC watched the entire process. We held more than 8 meetings. Bala was involved in all the meetings," Nwosu explained.
Questions Over Bala's Current Political Involvement
Nwosu expressed surprise at Bala's ongoing political activities, recalling his past efforts to promote the ADC in northern Nigeria. "What beats my imagination is that Bala was one of those who went around the North to market ADC to the people. Saying, if we are going to build a coalition, that the North should embrace ADC. So for him to be doing... There must have been something for him to be involved in what he is involved in now." This raises questions about potential external influences, with allegations that Bala's faction may be swayed by the ruling APC, though Bala has denied such claims.
The situation highlights ongoing tensions within Nigerian politics, as Nwosu's comments underscore concerns about electoral integrity and party unity. His call for leadership change at INEC reflects broader demands for transparency and adherence to the rule of law in the country's democratic institutions.
