FG Commends Poland for Aid to Displaced Nigerian Students

The Federal Government has expressed its appreciation to the Republic of Poland for its support of Nigerian students who were displaced by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, describing the assistance as a significant demonstration of bilateral solidarity.

Minister's Commendation

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, delivered the commendation during a meeting with Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy, Krzysztof Gawkowski, and his delegation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.

In a statement released on Sunday by Magnus Eze, the Special Assistant on Communication and New Media to the minister, it was noted that approximately 6,000 Nigerians reside in Poland, many of whom are pursuing educational opportunities.

Education as a Pillar of Relations

“Education is a vital pillar of our bilateral relations. We thank Poland for supporting Nigerian students affected by the conflict in Ukraine. This has ensured that many young Nigerians could continue their studies despite the disruption,” the minister stated.

She emphasized that education remains a strategic component of the relationship between the two countries. Through the Polish-Nigerian technical and scientific exchange programme, numerous Nigerians have studied at Polish universities, while Polish lecturers and scientists have also contributed to teaching and research in Nigerian institutions.

Strengthening Bilateral Ties

The commendation underscores the growing cooperation between Nigeria and Poland, particularly in the face of global challenges such as the war in Ukraine. The support for displaced students is seen as a tangible example of how international partnerships can mitigate the impacts of crises on education and human capital development.
