Presidential aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, has announced his decision to boycott the party's presidential primary election results announcement, citing concerns over alleged irregularities in the exercise.
Allegations of Vote Manipulation
Hayatu-Deen stated that reports reaching him from across the country indicated widespread vote manipulation during the primary process. He also claimed to have personally witnessed some of the alleged irregularities, which he described as deeply concerning.
In a statement posted via his X handle, Hayatu-Deen said: “I will not be attending the announcement of the ADC Presidential Election Results today. I am concerned by reports from across the country of widespread vote rigging, some of which I myself observed, and will therefore be taking advice on my next steps.”
Context of the Primary Contest
His position comes amid the ongoing ADC presidential primary contest, which involves prominent political figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi. The primary election is seen as a critical step in determining the party's candidate for the upcoming presidential election.
Hayatu-Deen's boycott raises questions about the transparency and credibility of the ADC primary process, as party officials have yet to respond to the allegations. Observers note that the development could impact the party's unity and its chances in the general election.
