Dele Momodu: How Opposition Can Remove Tinubu in 2027 Elections
Momodu: Tinubu Removable if Opposition Unites in 2027

A prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has stated that removing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from office in the 2027 general election is a feasible goal. Momodu, a former associate of the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, asserted that this can only happen if Nigeria's opposition forces overcome internal divisions and present a cohesive front to the electorate.

ADC's Strategy for 2027: Unity and Strong Candidates

Momodu made his comments while highlighting the growing influence of the ADC, arguing that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is not unbeatable. "President Tinubu is removable. There is nothing impossible in politics if the opposition organises itself properly and the electoral process is well managed," he declared.

He detailed the ADC's political strength, pointing to a roster of heavyweight defectors from other parties. According to Momodu, the ADC now includes former Sokoto State Governor and past Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; former FCT Minister and Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai; and former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

"We have a lot of people, a rich and robust line-up in the ADC. For me, it is not about one man alone," Momodu emphasized, suggesting the party has the personnel to mount a serious national challenge.

Leveraging Past Electoral Performance

Momodu presented a compelling electoral argument, noting that the ADC already harbors two of the top three contenders from the February 2023 presidential election. He referenced Atiku Abubakar of the PDP, who came second, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, who was officially recorded as finishing third by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

"Out of the top three candidates in the last election, the ADC already parades two," he said. Momodu believes this gives the party a significant foundation of support, which could be transformed into victory with effective coordination. "That should tell us that if we manage our affairs very well, we will already have overwhelming votes to torpedo the APC," he added.

The Path to Victory: Discipline and Credible Elections

The media entrepreneur turned politician insisted that a disciplined and united opposition could successfully challenge the APC across the country, including in its traditional strongholds. He stressed that personal ambitions must be set aside for collective action to succeed.

Furthermore, Momodu identified a transparent and professional electoral process as the other critical pillar for change. He pointed to global democratic standards, arguing that credible elections remain central to political change. A fair system, combined with a cohesive opposition, would, in his view, offer Nigerians a real choice in 2027.

This analysis comes amid other pessimistic forecasts for established opposition parties. Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, recently predicted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could slump to a fourth-place finish in 2027 due to internal crises and the marginalization of key figures.

Momodu's statements, made on January 15, 2026, frame the next Nigerian presidential election as a contest that will be determined by opposition strategy and electoral integrity, setting the stage for intense political maneuvering in the coming years.
