NDC Challenges Court Order for Deregistration at Appeal Court

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed its legal team to challenge a Federal High Court judgment that ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the party. The party announced its intention to appeal at the Court of Appeal, expressing dissatisfaction with the ruling delivered on Friday, June 26, 2026, in Lokoja, Kogi State.

NDC Vows to Pursue Legal Action

In a statement issued via its official X handle @NigeriaNDCHQ, the NDC urged its candidates and the general public to remain confident, asserting that the party remains on course and has not been deregistered. The statement read: “There was no order directing our deregistration. However, we are dissatisfied with the decision that has been made, and we have instructed our team of lawyers to immediately proceed to the Court of Appeal to challenge the jurisdiction and propriety of His Lordship’s order.”

Party Reassures Candidates and Public

The NDC emphasized that it has not been deregistered despite the court ruling. “We assure the general public, and particularly our candidates at all levels, that our party is on course. The NDC has not been deregistered, and we are challenging today’s order at the Court of Appeal as soon as possible. We have no doubt that justice will be done,” the statement added.
