Stakeholders Overwhelmingly Nominate Murtala Sule Garo as Kano Deputy Governor
The prolonged controversy surrounding the selection of a suitable nominee for the vacant deputy governor's seat in Kano State appears to have been decisively resolved. This follows the overwhelming endorsement of former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Murtala Sule Garo, by the legacy stakeholders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
High-Level Meeting Secures Consensus
The endorsement was formalized during a significant high-level meeting held on Saturday, convened under the leadership of former National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. In a decisive show of support, 27 of the 31 attendees sanctioned Garo to deputize Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, effectively settling the matter.
Former Leader of the House of Representatives and member representing the Doguwa Tudun-Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, provided insights into the meeting's proceedings. He revealed that despite a negligible dissenting voice, the choice of Garo dominated the discussions, highlighting a strong consensus among the stakeholders.
Garo's Qualifications and Grassroots Appeal
Doguwa emphasized that Garo enjoys the widest grassroots support and loyalty, attributes bolstered by his extensive public service record. Having previously served as a council chairman and commissioner, Garo's experience and connection with the electorate were cited as key factors in his nomination.
The federal lawmaker expressed firm belief that Garo remains the best man for the job, going so far as to describe the other two contenders as "mere shadow candidates." This characterization underscores the perceived lack of viable alternatives and solidifies Garo's position as the preferred choice.
Governor Yusuf's Delegation of Authority
Doguwa also applauded Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his strategic decision to cede his authority as the overall leader of the APC in Kano to the legacy stakeholders. This move allowed the group, under Ganduje's leadership, to produce three candidates for the deputy governor's seat, fostering a democratic and inclusive selection process.
Despite this gracious opportunity to consider multiple nominees, the stakeholders ultimately forwarded the name of Murtala Sule Garo as the most qualified candidate. This decision reflects a careful evaluation of his credentials, experience, and alignment with the party's goals for Kano State.
The nomination marks a critical step in stabilizing the state's political landscape, ensuring that Governor Yusuf has a capable deputy to support administrative functions and party cohesion moving forward.
