Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has declared that it would be an 'evil' act for Deltans to oppose President Bola Tinubu's bid for re-election in 2027. Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, the governor framed the upcoming election as a 'family affair,' emphasizing that President Tinubu is connected to the state through his wife, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, who is an Itsekiri woman.
Tinubu as an In-Law to Delta State
Oborevwori argued that among all the presidential candidates who have emerged, Tinubu is the only one with a direct affiliation to Delta State. 'The man is an in-law here, and it would be evil to vote against your in-law. It’s a family affair,' the governor stated. He further noted that in the South-South region, the people of Delta are claiming Tinubu as their own, having been deceived in the past but now recognizing his connection.
First Lady's Influence and Ethnic Support
The governor highlighted the strong role of the First Lady in holding the state together. 'The First Lady is holding the state strong, and no Itsekiri person will vote against Tinubu. No Urhobo man will because their son is the governor,' Oborevwori said. He expressed confidence that the ethnic groups in Delta, particularly the Itsekiri and Urhobo, would solidly back the president in the next election.
Oborevwori's comments come as political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the governor positioning Tinubu as the candidate with the deepest roots in the region.
