A prominent Lagos State lawmaker has made a strong appeal to the United States government, urging President Donald Trump to reconsider his stance toward Nigeria and instead offer support for the country's ongoing reforms.
Lawmaker's Defense of Tinubu's Administration
Honorable Adewale Temitope Adedeji, representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, issued a statement on Friday challenging President Trump's recent threats against Nigeria. The lawmaker emphasized that the Bola Tinubu administration has demonstrated significant progress in governance, security, and economic management that deserves international collaboration rather than condemnation.
Adedeji specifically highlighted President Tinubu's commitment to strengthening national security, pointing to the recent comprehensive overhaul of the country's service chiefs as concrete evidence of the administration's determination to confront insecurity head-on. He stated that the president has given clear instructions to security chiefs to put a final end to the activities of bandits and terrorists operating in various parts of the country.
Economic Progress Under Current Government
The ranking assembly member detailed several economic achievements that he believes warrant international support rather than threats. According to Adedeji, the Tinubu administration has successfully revived investor confidence, implemented policies that have begun to curb inflation, and restored stability to the national currency.
Multiple international bodies have acknowledged the economic reforms and fiscal management implemented under President Tinubu's leadership. The lawmaker noted that for the first time in years, inflation has started to decline significantly while the government continues to attract multi-billion-dollar investments across various sectors.
Additional economic achievements mentioned include the reinvigoration of previously moribund industries and improved financial stability at both national and subnational government levels. Adedeji described these developments as clear indicators that Nigeria is maintaining its position as Africa's economic giant.
Call for International Partnership
Adedeji appealed to the United States and other international partners to work collaboratively with Nigeria in addressing security challenges and strengthening economic ties. He emphasized that such partnerships would ultimately benefit citizens of all nations involved and contribute to regional stability.
The lawmaker also called on Nigerian citizens to remain patient and continue supporting the government's "Renewed Hope Agenda." He expressed confidence that the current administration's policies would yield even more positive results in the coming months with sustained implementation.
This development comes as Nigeria's Foreign Ministry has also responded to President Trump's claims about widespread killings of Christians in the country, stating that such assertions do not reflect the actual situation on the ground.
