Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi recently held a closed-door meeting with former South African President Thabo Mbeki and former Botswana President Ian Khama during his visit to South Africa. The meeting took place in Cape Town before Obi proceeded to Johannesburg, as disclosed in a statement on Obi's official page.
Discussions on Regional Issues
During the meeting, Obi expressed appreciation to both former leaders for their comments on recent immigration challenges in the region and their steadfast advocacy for peace and unity across Africa. The statement highlighted that both Mr. Khama and Mr. Mbeki continue to command immense respect across the continent due to their remarkable contributions during and after their presidencies.
Reunion with Kayode Fayemi
Obi also noted that he reunited with former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi during the Thabo Mbeki Africa Day lecture, organized by the Thabo Mbeki Foundation. The lecture provided an opportunity for dialogue on continental development and leadership.
“Both Mr. Khama and Mr. Mbeki continue to hold significant respect across the continent due to their remarkable contributions, both during and after their presidencies,” the statement read. The visit underscores Obi's engagement with prominent African leaders to foster collaboration and address pressing regional matters.
