Court Rejects NDLEA's Bid to Keep Pretty Mike's Lagos Club Shut, Approves Contempt Case
Court Victory for Pretty Mike as NDLEA's Shutdown Bid Fails

In a significant legal development, controversial Lagos socialite Pretty Mike has secured a major victory against the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The Federal High Court in Lagos has firmly rejected the agency's latest attempt to keep his popular nightclub, Proxy Night Club on Victoria Island, sealed.

Judge Dismisses NDLEA's Fresh Application

Presiding Judge, Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa, delivered the ruling, stating that the NDLEA failed to meet the necessary legal requirements to suspend a previous court order. That order, issued on December 5, 2025, had directed the club to be unsealed pending the outcome of an appeal.

Justice Lewis-Allagoa pointed out a critical flaw in the agency's argument. He noted that the NDLEA did not seek to suspend an earlier November 28 ruling, which was the foundation for the December 5 order they were challenging. This omission, according to the judge, weakened their case substantially.

"The application falls short of the legal requirements needed to stop the enforcement of the subsisting order," the judge ruled. He added that the reasons provided by the NDLEA in its appeal were insufficient to justify blocking the club's reopening, especially since the matter is already under appellate review.

Contempt Proceedings Approved Against NDLEA Boss

In a stern rebuke, the court also approved an application for substituted service in a contempt of court proceeding filed against the Chairman of the NDLEA. This move stems from the agency's alleged refusal to obey the initial court directives to unseal the nightclub.

Justice Lewis-Allagoa issued a clear warning, cautioning the anti-drug agency to comply fully with all court orders. He emphasized that no institution is above judicial authority. This ruling reinforces the club's right to operate while the broader legal case continues.

Background of the Legal Tussle

The entire controversy traces back to a high-profile raid on the night of October 26, 2025. NDLEA operatives stormed Proxy Night Club, arresting Pretty Mike and over 100 patrons on allegations of drug-related offences.

All arrested individuals were arraigned and pleaded not guilty before being granted bail on November 7, 2025. Following this, the NDLEA sought a temporary forfeiture of the club, arguing it was linked to illicit drug activities. The court refused this request, upholding the principle of presumption of innocence and ordering the club's reopening.

With this latest ruling, Proxy Night Club is free to resume full operations. The main criminal case, where Pretty Mike and others face charges, is scheduled for further hearing on February 9 and 10.
