Kano Hisbah Implements Strict Ramadan Regulations for Tricycle Operators
The Kano State Hisbah Board has announced a comprehensive ban targeting commercial tricycle operators, widely known as Yanzu Adaidaita Sahu, throughout the holy month of Ramadan. The restrictions, disclosed in a statement on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, by Deputy Commander-General Mujahid Aminuddeen, aim to curb behaviors deemed immoral during this sacred period.
Key Prohibitions and Enforcement Measures
Under the directives of Commander-General Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the board has launched a special Ramadan operation to enforce these rules. Tricycle operators are strictly forbidden from wearing three-quarter trousers, a style considered indecent by the board. Additionally, playing music that disturbs passengers and the public is banned, along with the use of knockouts in any part of the city.
Other prohibitions include indecent dressing, particularly by young women, and the display of phonographic posters and stickers on tricycles. Mixing opposite genders in tricycles is also prohibited, as well as carrying passengers of different genders side by side. Aminuddeen warned that any operator found violating these orders will be arrested and prosecuted, facing the full wrath of the law.
Background and Broader Security Efforts
This initiative is part of the board's ongoing "Operation Kau da Badala" (Operation fight against immorality), which seeks to sanitize Kano State from activities such as prostitution, drug abuse, and other social vices among youth. The board has also arranged to deploy operatives to various mosques where Tarawihi and Tahajjud prayers are conducted, collaborating with other security agents to enhance safety during Ramadan.
Aminuddeen emphasized that the board will not tolerate the alleged offenses of tricycle operators, which include immoral haircuts, riding in shorts, using objectionable posters, selling illegal drugs, and conveying women to locations for immoral acts. He stated that allowing such behaviors to continue, especially during Ramadan, is unacceptable.
Significance of Ramadan
Ramadan is a holy month in Islam dedicated to fasting from dawn to dusk, increased prayers, charity, and spiritual renewal. As one of the five pillars of Islam, it symbolizes obedience, self-discipline, and total submission to God. The Hisbah Board's measures are intended to align public conduct with these spiritual values, ensuring a respectful and pious environment throughout the month.
