Adebule empowers 1,000, sponsors 18 bills in Lagos-West

In a significant display of grassroots engagement, Senator Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule, representing Lagos-West, has directly empowered one thousand of her constituents with economic tools and capital. The event, a mega stakeholders' gathering held on Saturday, 10th January 2026, in Ikeja, also served as a platform for the lawmaker to present her legislative scorecard.

Massive Empowerment Drive for Job Creation

The empowerment programme, which was initially planned for December 2025 but was rescheduled, saw beneficiaries from all 28 Local Government and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the Lagos-West Senatorial District receive vital kits. Senator Adebule, a former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, distributed a range of items designed to foster entrepreneurship and self-reliance.

The distributed items included commercial mini-buses, sewing machines, laptops, and catering equipment. Furthermore, to ensure the sustainability of these ventures, selected categories of beneficiaries were also given cash grants of N200,000 each as seed capital for their businesses. Adebule emphasized that this initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope agenda, focusing specifically on job creation and alleviating poverty.

"Nothing gives me more tremendous joy and satisfaction than putting smiles on the faces of people and renewing their hopes in a future of shared prosperity," the Senator stated. She revealed that all 1,000 beneficiaries had first undergone intensive training in various soft skills such as ICT, hairdressing, barbing, tailoring, and cosmetology.

Legislative Productivity and Constituency Projects

Beyond the empowerment initiative, Senator Adebule provided a detailed breakdown of her work in the National Assembly since her inauguration in June 2023. On the legislative front, she has been notably active, having sponsored 12 bills and co-sponsored another 6, bringing her total contribution to eighteen bills. Additionally, two motions she presented have been adopted by the Senate.

Her report also highlighted numerous physical projects aimed at improving infrastructure and services at the grassroots level. Key projects mentioned include:

  • Two primary healthcare centres under construction in Igbolobi (Ojo) and Isokan (Ifako-Ijaiye).
  • Construction of blocks of classrooms, ranging from six to 18 units, across Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Onigbongbo, Ojo, and Oshodi.
  • Installation of over 1,000 solar street lights across the district.
  • Completion of six solar-powered boreholes and donation of seven transformers.
  • Construction of a pioneering multi-purpose Youth Development Centre in Badagry, equipped with an ICT hub and sports facilities.

Looking ahead, Adebule announced that her focus for the 2026 budget year would shift to road construction, particularly targeting inner roads to ease transportation hardships for residents.

Call for Patience Amid Economic Reforms

Addressing the current economic climate in Nigeria, Senator Adebule called on citizens to remain patient and continue supporting the federal government's reforms. She defended President Tinubu's policies, describing them as difficult but necessary steps to reset the nation's economy for sustainable and inclusive growth. "He is walking the talk," she affirmed.

The event was graced by prominent political figures, including members of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC) led by Prince Rabiu Adio Oluwa, the APC State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), representing Ogun West.

In her closing remarks, Senator Adebule thanked her constituents and party leadership for their steadfast support, assuring them that the 2026 legislative year would witness even more people-centred interventions and projects.
