Born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area, Akwashiki built a formidable career on a strong grassroots foundation. Before his election to the Senate in 2019, he served multiple terms in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, rising to the positions of Majority Leader and later Deputy Speaker.

His re-election in 2023 secured him a second term, making him the first senator from Nasarawa North to achieve two consecutive terms since the state's creation. He was a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
