Rivers PDP Faction Demands Fubara Disclose Tinubu-Brokered Peace Deal Details
PDP Faction Urges Fubara to Reveal Peace Deal Terms

A faction within the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a strong demand for Governor Siminalayi Fubara to publicly reveal the complete details of a peace agreement he allegedly entered into with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Call for Full Disclosure Amidst Renewed Tension

Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday, the factional caretaker chairman of the PDP in the state, Dr. Nname Ewor, insisted that the people of Rivers deserve to know the full content of the deal brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This agreement, he claimed, led to the lifting of the state of emergency previously declared in March 2025.

Ewor accused Governor Fubara of misleading party stakeholders by creating an impression that all crises had been resolved, while the current political climate suggests ongoing instability. He described the governor's actions as a 'deception,' alleging that Fubara led his supporters to believe he could challenge Wike's political influence, only to later defect from the PDP "in the middle of a political sea" in December 2025.

Alleged Terms of the Secret Agreement

The PDP faction chairman outlined specific terms he claims were part of the undisclosed understanding reached in Abuja. According to Ewor, Governor Fubara reportedly agreed to:

  • Not seek a second term in office.
  • Dismiss his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie.
  • Remove the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo.
  • Reinstate Sergeant Awuse as the Chairman of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers.

Ewor stated that the governor has failed to honour these alleged terms. Following the end of the emergency rule, Fubara retained Ehie, appointed Benibo Anabraba (an ally of Danagogo) as the new SSG, and has not reinstated Awuse.

He traced the renewed political tension directly to Fubara's failure to adhere to this agreement, contrasting it with the governor's alleged post-emergency boasts that President Tinubu would force the State House of Assembly to pass the budget and compel Wike to support his re-election.

Background of the Crisis and Legal Challenges

Ewor provided a timeline of the political turmoil, starting with the rift between the governor and the State House of Assembly within his first year in office. This conflict escalated to include the bombing of the Assembly complex, a failed initial peace pact, and the eventual declaration of a state of emergency in March 2025.

He revealed that a second, undocumented peace deal was brokered during the emergency period but also collapsed, culminating in Fubara's defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December 2025. "As a party, we challenged the declaration of the emergency rule in court to protect our mandate. Today, the governor has taken that mandate to the APC, which is improper," Ewor added.

The faction leader also criticised Fubara's absence from the PDP National Convention in Ibadan in November 2025, where the state's executive committee was dissolved, despite Rivers delegates attending under his watch.

He defended the legitimacy of the PDP caretaker committee set up by the party's National Working Committee in December 2025, affirming that its actions remain valid pending court rulings.

Wike's Tour and the Road to 2027

Addressing the recent thank-you tour of the 23 local government areas by Minister Wike, Ewor noted that the FCT minister has repeatedly accused Governor Fubara of reneging on the peace deal, including the pledge not to seek re-election.

While acknowledging that Fubara's second-term ambition is now a matter for the APC, Ewor maintained that transparency is non-negotiable for the people of Rivers State. "This is about our collective interest, welfare and peaceful governance," he declared.

He concluded with a firm demand ahead of the 2027 general elections: "We therefore demand that the governor fully and completely disclose all agreements reached before the president, to enable Rivers people make informed decisions."
