Abia APC Reassures Unsuccessful Primaries Aspirants

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has addressed the outcome of its recently concluded primaries, sending a message of reassurance to aspirants who were not victorious. The party emphasized that it will not abandon those who contested but lost, acknowledging their significant investments of time, finances, and emotions.

Party Acknowledges Aspirants' Sacrifices

In a statement signed by Uche Aguoru, the party's publicity secretary in Abia, the APC recognized the sacrifices made by all aspirants. The statement, released on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, noted that the primary process required considerable financial commitment, time, and emotional investment. The party leadership is actively working to maintain calm among the unsuccessful candidates and ensure they are adequately compensated in the coming weeks.

Plans for Constructive Engagement

The APC disclosed plans to convene a meeting with the affected aspirants in Abuja in the near future. Discussions will focus on finding common ground and addressing concerns in a manner that strengthens party unity. The party stressed that despite losing at the primaries, the contributions of these aspirants to the growth and democratic process remain invaluable and will not go unnoticed.

“The party is mindful of the difficult period some of our aspirants may be going through, having invested resources and energy into the primary process. We want to assure them that they will not be abandoned,” the statement read.

APC's 2027 Gubernatorial Candidate

The APC is seeking to unseat incumbent Governor Alex Otti, who is running for re-election under the Labour Party (LP) in 2027. Otti was elected governor in 2023. The APC has declared Eric Opah as its 2027 gubernatorial candidate, who polled 125,977 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chief Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh, who scored 5,905 votes. Opah will face Otti and other candidates in the general elections. His emergence followed initial rumors of disqualification, which the party debunked.

Presidential Ticket Secured

President Bola Tinubu has also clinched the APC's presidential ticket for the 2027 elections, winning the party's primary by a landslide. He aims for re-election amid challenges from opposition candidates such as Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar.
