The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State has issued a strong rebuttal to viral social media reports alleging the defection of a former National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Official Statement Dismisses Defection Claims
In a statement released on Thursday, January 9, 2026, in Lafia, the party categorically labeled the reports as false, misleading, and baseless. The clarification was provided by the APC State Organising Secretary, Hassan Abubakar, who also coordinates the party's ongoing e-membership registration exercise in the state.
Abubakar stated unequivocally, "For the avoidance of doubt, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, at no time, defected, contemplated defection, or associated himself with any other political party." The party insisted that the former Governor of Nasarawa State remains a loyal and card-carrying member of the APC.
Photograph Clarification: Evidence of Loyalty, Not Defection
The party addressed the specific photograph circulating online, which was purportedly used as evidence of the alleged defection. Abubakar explained that the image was actually captured during the APC's nationwide e-membership registration and revalidation exercise.
He emphasized that the program is designed to strengthen the party's internal database and promote democracy. "The image clearly shows Senator Abdullahi Adamu revalidating his APC membership in line with the party’s constitutional processes and reform agenda," Abubakar noted.
APC Condemns 'Politically Motivated' Misinformation
The Nasarawa APC chapter condemned what it described as an irresponsible and politically motivated attempt to misrepresent a routine party activity. The statement accused unnamed individuals of spreading deliberate misinformation aimed at creating confusion among party members and the public ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party reaffirmed Senator Adamu's documented contributions to the APC's growth and stability, describing his loyalty as unquestionable. It urged members, the media, and the general public to disregard the rumors and rely only on verified information from official party channels.
The statement concluded by reaffirming that the APC, both in Nasarawa and nationally, remains united and focused on advancing its governance agenda across Nigeria.
Context: Kwankwaso's Warning on Political Betrayal
This development comes against a backdrop of heightened political rhetoric ahead of the 2027 polls. Previously, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, issued a stark warning about the consequences of betrayal in politics.
While not directly linked to the Adamu rumors, Kwankwaso's comments, which criticized a "culture of betrayal and inducement," reflect the tense political climate as parties begin to position themselves for the next electoral cycle.
