APC Nasarawa Denies Senator Adamu's Defection to ADC, Calls It Fake News
APC Nasarawa Denies Adamu's Defection to ADC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) chapter in Nasarawa State has issued a strong rebuttal against viral social media reports alleging the defection of a former National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Party Statement Labels Claims as False and Misleading

In an official statement released on Friday and signed by the party's State Organising Secretary, Hassan Abubakar, the APC described the trending information as completely untrue. The statement, obtained by journalists in Lafia, asserted that the rumour was fabricated by political adversaries seeking to damage the reputation of the elder statesman.

The party categorically dismissed the reports as baseless propaganda designed to mislead the public and sow seeds of confusion and tension within the APC's ranks in Nasarawa State and beyond.

Adamu Remains a Card-Carrying APC Member

The APC's communication left no room for doubt regarding Senator Adamu's allegiance. It affirmed that the former governor of Nasarawa State is a man of integrity and high repute who remains a committed and card-carrying member of the APC.

"For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, at no time, defected, contemplated defection, or associated himself with any other political party," the statement read in part.

Circulated Photo Misrepresents Party Activity

Hassan Abubakar provided crucial context to a photograph circulating online, which was being presented as purported evidence of the defection. He clarified that the image was actually captured during the ongoing APC e-membership registration and revalidation exercise.

This nationwide programme is aimed at strengthening the party's database and internal democratic processes. Abubakar explained that the image clearly shows Senator Adamu participating in this legitimate activity by revalidating his own APC membership, in full compliance with the party's constitutional procedures and reform agenda.

The party condemned the actions of unnamed individuals who attempted to misrepresent this routine party event as a defection, labelling such behaviour as irresponsible and politically desperate. It stated that these actions constitute deliberate misinformation.

Call for Disregard and Reaffirmation of Unity

The APC's statement highlighted that Senator Adamu's loyalty and his significant contributions to the growth, development, and stability of the party are well-documented and remain unquestionable.

The party called on its members, the media, and the general public to completely disregard the false claims and to rely solely on verified information from credible and official sources. It reaffirmed that the APC in Nasarawa State and across Nigeria remains united and focused on its mission of advancing progressive governance.

In a related political development, the Rivers Restoration Movement (RRM) has issued a warning. The group stated that recent critical remarks attributed to the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, against the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, could potentially undermine President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's electoral prospects in the strategically important Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
