Governors, religious leaders, and security agencies across Nigeria have called for peace, unity, and prayers as Muslims celebrate Eid-el-Kabir, with a particular focus on maintaining harmony ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Borno Governor Felicitates Muslims
In Borno State, Governor Babagana Zulum extended warm greetings to Muslims in the state and beyond on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice. Zulum, currently performing the Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, described the festival as a solemn occasion for Muslims to reflect on the virtues of sacrifice, selflessness, compassion, and devotion as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, the governor urged Muslims to recommit themselves to supporting the less privileged and promoting love, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. He reiterated his administration's commitment to sustaining peace and security in Borno State, particularly in resettled communities, while strengthening support for displaced persons, refugees, and returnees.
"We will continue to work very closely with the military and other security agencies, as well as volunteer forces, to ensure peace and tranquillity prevail in our communities. My administration's commitment to security is second to none," Zulum said. The governor also pledged to intensify efforts towards community resettlement and economic empowerment for vulnerable citizens. "I want to assure you that more communities will be resettled before the end of our administration, Insha Allah. We will continue to roll out empowerment initiatives to vulnerable and displaced persons to become productive members of society," he added. Zulum further assured residents of his administration's resolve to complete ongoing developmental projects before his tenure ends. He commended leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress for the peaceful and successful conduct of the party's primary elections in the state. The governor urged citizens to continue praying for sustainable peace in Borno State and Nigeria, calling for peaceful conduct ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Niger Governor Urges Peaceful Conduct
Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago congratulated Muslims worldwide on the Eid-el-Kabir celebration. In a message issued through his spokesman, Bologi Ibrahim, Bago thanked Allah for the opportunity to witness this year's festival. He noted that Eid-el-Kabir commemorates Prophet Ibrahim's devotion and obedience to Allah and urged Muslims to renew their commitment, devotion, and steadfastness in serving God. He encouraged the faithful to demonstrate love, compassion, and charity, particularly towards the downtrodden. Bago also urged Nigerians to pray for peace, sustainable growth, and development in Niger State and the country. He appealed to the Muslim Ummah to continue supporting leaders at all levels through prayers to ensure purposeful leadership. He cautioned residents, especially youths, against engaging in violence during and after the festivities, warning that security agencies had been directed to deal decisively with anyone disturbing public peace.
Plateau Chief Imam Calls for Unity
In Plateau State, the Chief Imam of the Central Mosque and Alli Kazaure Masalachi Idi, Sheikh Adam Ismail Gazali, used the Eid prayers to call for unity and peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians in the country. Gazali said the prayers were necessary as Nigerians prepare for the 2027 general elections. He urged citizens to intensify prayers to avert violence and bloodshed during the polls, specifically praying for a peaceful electoral process in Plateau State. The Eid celebrations in the state were largely peaceful, with Muslims turning out in large numbers for prayers at designated grounds. Governor Caleb Mutfwang, through the Commissioner for Information, Lawandi Dati, congratulated Muslims in Plateau State, Nigeria, and across the world on the Eid-el-Kabir celebration. Mutfwang described the occasion as sacred, symbolizing faith, sacrifice, obedience, and complete submission to the will of God. In a statement issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Gyang Bere, the governor said the lessons of Eid-el-Kabir remain relevant in promoting peace, tolerance, compassion, selflessness, and harmonious coexistence among people of diverse backgrounds. He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to religious harmony, inclusiveness, justice, and equal opportunities for all citizens regardless of ethnic, religious, or political affiliations.
