Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Manir Muhammad Dan'iya, has emerged as the consensus governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general elections. Dan'iya, who served under former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, confirmed this in a statement issued by his former Press Secretary, Aminu Abdullahi Abubakar, on Friday.
Gratitude to Supporters
Dan'iya expressed deep appreciation to party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters for the confidence reposed in him. He described his emergence as a significant responsibility and pledged to work tirelessly for the unity, stability, and development of Sokoto State.
Tambuwal's Role
The former deputy governor, who also holds the traditional title of Walin Sokoto, particularly acknowledged Tambuwal for his support and guidance. He noted that the backing from elders, youths, women's groups, and political associates reflects a shared vision for the state's future.
According to Dan'iya, the ADC movement represents a fresh push for inclusive leadership, good governance, and people-oriented policies ahead of the 2027 governorship race. He stated, "I sincerely appreciate His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, alongside all stakeholders, political associates, elders, youths, women, and supporters for the confidence reposed in me. This support is a responsibility I deeply value, and together, we shall continue to work for the unity, stability, and development of Sokoto State."
Other Aspirants
At least 10 aspirants had initially signified interest in the ADC governorship ticket, including former Ambassador to Jordan, Faruk Malami Yabo; former Minister of Transportation, Yusuf Suleiman; and former PDP governorship flag bearer in the 2023 elections, Saidu Umar, among others. Dan'iya's emergence as the consensus candidate is seen as a strategic move to unite the party ahead of the polls.
