Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, the younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, has demanded the outright cancellation of the governorship election results in Afao-Ekiti, alleging systematic manipulation and irregularities. Fayose, who is the African Democratic Congress (ADC) House of Representatives candidate for Ekiti Central, made the call while speaking with The Nation at the Iketun-Agba Ibera polling unit.
Allegations of Vote Invalidations
Fayose claimed that votes cast for the ADC and other opposition parties were being deliberately invalidated by supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He described the process as biased and unacceptable, stating that after opposition voters cast their ballots, APC supporters would add extra thumbprints to void them. This, he argued, amounted to electoral manipulation.
Voter Inducement Claims
In addition to vote invalidation, Fayose alleged widespread voter inducement across the area. He insisted that the entire electoral process in Afao-Ekiti had been compromised and should be cancelled outright. He stated, “Members and supporters of ADC voted; immediately they leave, then the APC people will put another thumbprint on it to void it. This is not fair. The Afao-Ekiti election should be cancelled outright; it has been manipulated in their favour. There are massive inducements of voters everywhere.”
Context of the Ekiti 2026 Election
The demand comes amid heightened tensions during the Ekiti State governorship election. A viral video earlier showed voters chasing away EFCC operatives, indicating a charged atmosphere. The ADC candidate’s brother has called for immediate action to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
