Kwankwaso Humbled by NDC VP Slot, Commits to Unity

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has been formally ratified as the vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 general elections. The former governor of Kano state expressed profound gratitude for the party's confidence in him, describing his selection as a humbling and deeply honoured moment.

Kwankwaso Praises NDC Leadership

In a statement posted on his official X account, Kwankwaso commended the NDC for its unwavering commitment to national unity, democratic consolidation, and purposeful leadership. He specifically thanked the party's National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, and other leaders for their bold and visionary decision. Kwankwaso emphasised that the decision reflects the party's dedication to moving Nigeria forward.

Partnership with Peter Obi

Kwankwaso is set to run alongside Peter Obi, who secured the NDC presidential ticket. During an interview on Arise TV, Kwankwaso explained that northern leaders surveyed the political landscape and concluded that Obi was the foremost alternative capable of steering the country in the right direction. He dismissed concerns about potential friction within the alliance, stating that political disagreements often stem from greed rather than structural issues. Citing his experience as deputy speaker of the House of Representatives and later as Kano state governor, Kwankwaso argued that political partnerships can withstand pressure and remain stable.

Tackling Insecurity and National Healing

Kwankwaso reiterated his commitment to working with Obi to address insecurity and heal the nation. He stressed that their joint efforts would focus on providing purposeful leadership and ensuring the country's progress. The former federal lawmaker noted that the alliance is built on a shared vision for a better Nigeria.

Rejection of Tinubu Alliance Rumours

Kwankwaso also dismissed rumours that he was working with President Bola Tinubu, labelling such claims as foolish. In a video interview with Global TV Nigeria, he insisted that he remains a serious opposition figure dedicated to challenging the current administration.

The NDC's decision to field Obi and Kwankwaso as its presidential and vice-presidential candidates marks a significant development in the run-up to the 2027 elections, with both leaders commanding substantial support bases across the country.
