Kwara Group Accuses Gov AbdulRazaq of Secretly Funding ADC Party
Kwara Group Alleges Gov AbdulRazaq Secretly Funding ADC

A political development group in Kwara State has raised serious allegations against the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, accusing him of clandestinely financing the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Allegations of Covert Funding and Anti-Party Activity

The Kwara North Development Commission (KNDC) claimed on Tuesday, 14 January 2026, that the governor's secret financial support is strategically bolstering the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections. In a statement released in Ilorin, the group asserted that the ADC's entire political stance and operations within the state are being sustained by Governor AbdulRazaq and his associates.

The statement, jointly signed by its President, Abdullahi Mansuma, and Publicity Secretary, Hajia Zainabu Seko, argued that the party has never publicly criticised the governor's administration or governance style, implying a hidden understanding. The core of the accusation is that the governor is engaging in anti-party activities by secretly supporting the ADC while publicly leading the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

ADC Leadership Denies Claims as 'Blatant Lie'

The leadership of the ADC has swiftly and categorically denied the allegations. A prominent party chieftain and former Nigerian Ambassador to Japan, Professor Isa Gana, dismissed the insinuations as a blatant falsehood.

Gana, who also served as a former Deputy Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, expressed skepticism about the existence of the group making the claims. He questioned the logic behind the accusation, asking why Governor AbdulRazaq would fund a party whose objective is to wrest power from his own APC.

Political Implications and Next Steps

This public spat introduces a new layer of complexity to Kwara State's political landscape as the 2027 election cycle begins to take shape. The allegations, if unaddressed, could fuel internal discord within the APC and shape public perception of inter-party dynamics in the state.

The situation presents a significant challenge for both the accusers and the accused. The KNDC has put a serious claim on the public record, while the ADC and the governor's camp must now manage the narrative to prevent political damage. Observers will be watching closely for further denials, evidence, or potential reactions from the state chapter of the APC regarding the alleged anti-party activity.
