Lagos 2027: Hamzat Emerges APC Candidate, Vows Continuity

Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 elections, has set the tone for his campaign with a call to duty. Speaking at his campaign office in Sobo Arobiodu, Ikeja GRA, after being officially named the party's flag-bearer, Hamzat declared, "The real work is just beginning and I am grateful to have such a dedicated team standing with me as we build the future of our state. We are ready for the days ahead. Let’s get to work."

Hamzat's Nomination and Vision

The nomination of Hamzat as the APC candidate came after months of extensive consultations with party stakeholders across the state and the party's governorship primaries. Addressing his enthusiastic supporters, Hamzat emphasized the shared commitment to building a prosperous future for Lagos. He stated, "Supporters, party members, the entire team came together with the belief and a shared commitment to the future we want to build."

Lagos, being unique among Nigerian states, requires an exceptionally experienced leader to govern effectively. Hamzat understands the herculean task ahead, as he has been an integral part of the Sanwo-Olu administration, ensuring the chain and pace of development remain unbroken. He highlighted his two decades of service in various capacities, working alongside exceptional leaders who laid the foundation for the state's progress. "I have seen first-hand that governance is not easy, but I have also seen what is possible when leadership is guided by vision, courage, and a genuine commitment to the people," Hamzat said.

Key Priorities for Lagos

Hamzat outlined his vision for a megacity that requires careful planning, experience, and steady leadership. He pledged to continue investing in transportation, jobs, education, healthcare, security, and opportunities that provide hope and dignity to Lagosians. "We must build a Lagos where no one is left behind and where every child can dream beyond the circumstances they were born into," he added.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who has worked closely with Hamzat for seven years, endorsed his deputy's competence, stating, "We have worked side by side for years and I know first-hand his deep love for Lagosians, his brilliance, and his unwavering dedication to progress. The work ahead is massive, but with Femi, I am absolutely confident that our state will reach even greater heights."

Call for Voter Mobilization

The next critical stage is the mobilization of eligible voters. Hamzat urged all discerning Lagosians who have benefited from the Sanwo-Olu administration's massive infrastructure and services to participate in the electoral process. He called on residents of voting age to obtain their Permanent Voter's Cards (PVC) and vote for the man divinely anointed to lead the state from next year. As a journalist, Steve Omolale, who wrote from Lagos, emphasized the importance of continuity and the need for voters to support Hamzat's candidacy.
