A coalition of youth leaders from Niger State has purchased the expression of interest and governorship intent form for aspirant Alhaji Yahya Muhammad Guregi, ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election. The group, operating under the banner of the Niger State Concerned Youths, gathered at the National Secretariat of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Abuja to submit payment and collect the document on behalf of the aspirant.
Grassroots Movement Launch
The group described the move as a formal launch of a grassroots movement aimed at securing the party's ticket for Guregi. Led by Albashir Aliyu Gidan-Kwano, a former 2023 Niger State House of Assembly candidate, the delegation drew representatives from all 25 local government areas of the state.
Call for Competent Leadership
Speaking after collecting the form, Gidan-Kwano stated that the decision to pool resources was born out of a collective resolve to rescue the state from its current governance deficit. He noted that the state requires experienced and accountable leadership to address persistent challenges in security, education, and infrastructure.
He said: "This is a people-driven project built on sincerity, competence, and genuine passion for service. This is a defining moment in the political history of Niger State. The movement has begun, and together we can build a brighter future for generations to come."
Economic Revitalization Priorities
The group further argued that the state needs a comprehensive economic revitalization plan that prioritizes job creation, agricultural modernization, improved access to quality education, and critical investments in healthcare and rural infrastructure. According to the youth leaders, Guregi's political experience and consistent outreach to grassroots communities position him as a candidate capable of translating policy into tangible outcomes for ordinary citizens.
Call for Inclusive Participation
The coalition also called on party officials, traditional rulers, women's organizations, student bodies, and artisans to align with the movement to ensure a participatory process ahead of the party primaries. They emphasized that the movement is open to all stakeholders who share the vision of transforming Niger State.
