NNPP re-elects Ajuji Ahmed as national chairman

The New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP) has consolidated its leadership structure, re-electing its top officials without opposition during a major gathering in the nation's capital.

A Unanimous Mandate for Continuity

At a national convention held in Abuja on 22 December 2025, the NNPP returned Dr. Ajuji Ahmed to his position as National Chairman. His re-election was conducted through voice votes, with no other candidate contesting the position. The event was officially monitored by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Similarly, Mr. Dipo Olayoku was returned as the National Secretary. All other members of the party's National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Council (NEC) were also elected unopposed, signaling a period of internal stability for the party.

Leadership Vows and 2027 Ambitions

In his acceptance address, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed embraced the responsibility bestowed upon the leadership for the next four years. He framed the re-election as a renewed call to service, urging his colleagues to honor the oaths they took.

The central objective outlined was a determined push to win the 2027 general elections. Ajuji pledged that the newly elected leadership would work diligently towards this goal. He called on party members to remain hopeful and committed to building a "strong, virile, united, progressive, equitable, prosperous, and decent democratic nation."

He pointed to the party's governance in Kano State as a blueprint, stating, "The NNPP's flag must fly higher... to reassure citizens that a new, better, greater and prosperous Nigeria is possible, as obtainable in Kano State under the NNPP-led government of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf." Ajuji asserted that the party has been repositioned, restructured, and strengthened as a major democratic stakeholder ready to offer the country a "fresh start."

Endorsements from Party Stalwarts

The convention featured strong endorsements from the party's key figures. Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the NNPP's National Leader and former Kano State Governor, congratulated the new executives. He advised them to maintain discipline and loyalty, highlighting the Kano State government's performance as a preview of what the party could achieve nationally in 2027.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State described the event as a defining moment for the NNPP's future. He charged the new leaders to champion unity, fairness, and inclusivity within the party's ranks.

Mr. Bala Mohammed, Chairman of the Convention Planning Committee, explained that the gathering was convened to ratify NEC decisions and elect officials constitutionally. He praised the party's remarkable achievements over the past four years.

Adding a note of caution, the party's National Adviser, Mr. Magaji Ibrahim, warned members against rumors of division, insisting the NNPP remains united under Senator Kwankwaso's leadership.
