Obidient Movement Vows to Stay in ADC Regardless of Primary Outcome
Obidient Movement to Remain in ADC After Primary

The Obidient Movement, the formidable political support base of former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, has pledged its unwavering commitment to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The group's leadership has declared it will remain within the party and accept the outcome of its forthcoming presidential primary, irrespective of who emerges as the flagbearer.

A Commitment to Democratic Principles

Tanko Yunusa, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, made this significant declaration on Thursday, January 1. He spoke during an appearance on Channels Television's programme, The Morning Brief. Yunusa stressed that the movement is fundamentally built on democratic ideals and will conduct all its internal decisions according to those tenets.

He confirmed that the movement will engage in a fair contest within the ADC alongside other aspirants, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. However, Yunusa expressed strong confidence that Peter Obi would ultimately prevail due to the massive support base he commands.

"We Will Remain in the Party"

When directly questioned about the movement's plan should Atiku Abubakar win the party's nomination, Yunusa's response was unequivocal. "We will remain in the party and give the party the lease of life it demands democratically," he stated. This position underscores a strategic shift from being merely a support group to becoming an institutional force within a political structure.

Yunusa credited Peter Obi's involvement for the ADC's recent surge in national relevance. He described the party as a vehicle that was effectively ignited by the former governor's entry, attracting widespread attention and membership.

Mass Defections and Growing Influence

The Obidient Movement coordinator revealed that the group comprises millions of intelligent youths demanding clarity and good governance, all prepared to formally join the ADC. He confirmed that this process is already in motion, with supporters actively obtaining their party membership cards.

Yunusa also disclosed significant defections to the ADC by prominent political figures. He confirmed that former Senator Victor Umeh has joined the party and played a key role at a recent major political gathering in Enugu, stepping in as the master of ceremonies and moving a crucial motion.

Furthermore, he stated that Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has also officially decamped to the ADC. Yunusa indicated that more high-profile defections from the National Assembly and among former governors are anticipated in the coming weeks, solidifying the ADC's new status.

Positioning for Future Elections

Yunusa concluded by positioning the Obidient Movement as a growing local and international political force now embedded within the ADC. He criticized the current administration for what he termed the use of negative executive power, urging citizens to counter this with their positive executive power exercised through democratic participation in parties like the ADC.

This move signals a determined effort to translate the movement's substantial popular support into concrete party machinery and influence, setting the stage for a redefined political landscape ahead of future elections.
