Chief Uzodinma Okpara, son of the late Premier of the defunct Eastern Region, Dr Michael Okpara, has officially inaugurated the Ohuhu for Dr Alex Otti 2027 support group in Abia State. The group aims to mobilise grassroots support for Governor Alex Otti’s re-election in 2027 under the slogan “Otti or Nothing.”
Group Leadership and Mission
Chief Okpara, an indigene of Ohuhu Clan in Umuahia North Local Government Area, leads the group. Members cited Governor Otti’s outstanding performance in less than three years in office as the driving force behind the initiative. During the inauguration at his country home, Chief Okpara urged the group to take Governor Otti’s developmental and transformational achievements to the grassroots, emphasising that the governor’s performance justifies another term. He stated that the reward for good work should be more work, and declared to loud applause that Otti’s re-election would bring more democratic dividends to Abia State and Ohuhu land in particular.
Commitment to Block Votes
Chief Okpara assured Governor Otti that members of the support group and the entire Ohuhu Clan would reciprocate the governor’s support for the area by delivering block votes in 2027. He also pledged support for Hon. Obi Aguocha, the member representing Umuahia North/Umuahia South/Ikwuano Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, who is seeking a second term.
Coordinator’s Remarks
Coordinator of the support group, Chief Nmere Asonye, described Ohuhu as a land of political sophistication, intellectual heavyweights, and trailblazers that have always played a critical role in Abia’s political evolution. “Today, we are here to make a definitive statement and launch a movement that secures our future as we flag off the Ohuhu Political Support Group for the re-election of Governor Otti in 2027,” he said. Asonye argued that Governor Otti’s transformation agenda was already visible across the state. “For over two decades, Abia suffered stagnation and bad governance, but in 2023, light broke through the darkness with the election of Governor Otti. He is actively building a New Abia, and his stellar performance has already cleared his path for a second term,” he added.
Support from Alpha Arise Group
The event was attended by leaders of another pro-Otti group, Alpha Arise, including its leader, Mazi Ugochukwu Okorafor, and secretary, Dr Godwin Duru. Okorafor likened Governor Otti’s leadership style to that of the late Dr Michael Okpara. He said Otti’s administration was restoring the legacy associated with the era of the late premier, which was reputed globally as one of the fastest-growing economies at the time. He questioned why successive leaders failed to sustain Okpara’s development model, expressing gratitude for what he described as the emergence of purposeful leadership under Governor Otti.
Local Government Endorsement
Mayor of Umuahia North Local Government Area, Mr Smart Iheoma, stressed the importance of re-electing Governor Otti, assuring that Ohuhu people would overcome every challenge to ensure his victory in 2027. He advised Otti’s challengers to focus on obtaining Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and returning to their wards to canvass support for the governor rather than wasting resources on unnecessary campaigns.
Federal Commissioner’s Message
From Abuja, the Commissioner representing Abia State in the Federal Character Commission, Dr Victor Ikeji, also an indigene of Ohuhu Clan, sent a representative, Mr Adindu Elesulam, to the event. In his message, Ikeji said Governor Otti’s achievements deserved another term in office and pledged support towards ensuring his re-election in 2027.
Support Pledge Recitation
The high point of the event was the recitation of a support pledge by members of the Ohuhu pro-Otti group, led by Chief Uzodinma Okpara, affirming their commitment to Governor Otti’s second-term ambition.
