Peter Obi Confirms Kwankwaso as Running Mate for 2027

Peter Obi has confirmed that former Kano state governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will serve as his running mate in the 2027 presidential election. Obi made the announcement during his acceptance speech after emerging as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress at the party’s special convention held on Saturday, May 30, in Abuja.

Obi-Kwankwaso Ticket Confirmed

The former Anambra governor said the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket would focus on rebuilding Nigeria, restoring public confidence in governance, and tackling insecurity and economic hardship ahead of the 2027 elections. He stated: "Our democracy will exemplify true governance of the people, by the people, and for the people, completely free from interference by the ruling party. Instead, we will institutionalise deep respect for opposition parties and foster constructive engagement in governance."

Commitment to Democratic Integrity

Obi further emphasized: "Under my leadership, democracy will be pursued with integrity, fairness, and transparency. Following this, I will make democracy work, and the Vice President will be a partner not a spare tyre. I hereby accept my affirmation and nominate Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso as my Vice President." He concluded by blessing the nation: "May God bless you all, and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria."
