Isa Kalanjeni, the Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area in Sokoto State, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and stepped down from his position as chairman. The resignation, effective immediately, was announced through two separate letters, one dated May 5, 2026, and the other dated July 7, 2026.
Resignation Letters Detail Personal and Administrative Reasons
In the first letter addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Kalanjeni Ward in Tangaza Local Government Area, Kalanjeni stated: “I wish to formally inform you of my decision to resign from the APC with immediate effect.” The second letter, sent to the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, confirmed his resignation as the elected Executive Chairman.
Kalanjeni emphasized that his decision to leave the party and his position was purely personal. “This decision is borne out of purely personal reasons. I appreciate the opportunity given to me to be part of the party,” he said in the letter.
Administrative Challenges Cited
In his resignation as chairman, Kalanjeni cited administrative constraints that hindered his ability to perform his duties effectively. “Due to recent unavoidable administrative challenges, I find that I am no longer able to execute the responsibilities of this office to the high standard expected of me,” he wrote. He noted that the decision was reached after extensive consultations with his family, key political associates, and community stakeholders.
The resignation comes ahead of the 2027 general elections, raising questions about political realignments in Sokoto State. Kalanjeni expressed gratitude for the opportunities provided during his tenure with the APC.
