Nigeria Announces Significant Reduction in 2026 Hajj Pilgrimage Costs

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria has delivered welcome news to intending pilgrims by announcing substantial reductions in the 2026 Hajj fare structure across all regions of the country.

This significant price cut comes as a direct response to recommendations made by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who advocated for more affordable pilgrimage costs to ease financial pressures on Nigerian Muslims.

Regional Fare Structure and Savings

According to the detailed announcement made on Sunday, pilgrims from different zones will benefit from varying levels of savings. Travelers departing from the Northern Zone will pay N7,696,769.76, representing a substantial reduction of N760,915.83 from previous rates.

Pilgrims from the Southern Zone will pay N7,991,141.76, enjoying the largest absolute savings of N792,943.83 compared to the 2025 Hajj season. Those from the Borno and Adamawa Zone receive the most favorable rate at N7,579,020.96, reflecting a N748,104.63 reduction.

The commission emphasized that these revised fares are part of comprehensive reforms aimed at making the sacred pilgrimage more accessible and transparent for all Nigerian Muslims.

Critical Payment Deadline and Preparations

NAHCON has established December 5, 2025, as the final payment deadline for all intending pilgrims. This cutoff date is crucial for finalizing travel arrangements and securing confirmed slots for the 2026 Hajj exercise.

The commission stressed that timely payment is essential for adequate preparation and logistical planning, ensuring smooth operations for the thousands of Nigerians expected to participate in the religious journey.

Strengthened International Cooperation

In related developments, NAHCON Chairman and CEO Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman has formally signed the 2026 Memorandum of Understanding with Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Hajj on behalf of the Nigerian government.

This agreement, publicly shared on NAHCON's official social media platforms, solidifies Nigeria's participation in the upcoming pilgrimage season and guarantees allocated slots, confirmed flight arrangements, and properly organized logistics in compliance with Saudi Arabian requirements.

The fare reduction announcement comes amid ongoing reforms within NAHCON, including external audits and enhanced service standards designed to restore public confidence in Hajj operations following previous challenges.
