2027 Presidency: Hashim Declares Under Accord, Sowore Under AAC

Former presidential candidate and business magnate Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has officially confirmed his membership in the Accord Party and declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under its platform. In a related development, the African Action Congress (AAC) announced the resignation of human rights activist Omoyele Sowore as its National Chairman following his emergence as the party's presidential candidate for the 2027 elections.

Hashim's Grassroots Mobilization

Responding to media inquiries, Hashim revealed that his political structure has already begun extensive grassroots mobilization within the Accord Party across the country. He stated that over one million supporters have been integrated into the party as part of efforts to build a formidable political movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Hashim also addressed comments reportedly made by a governor suggesting that the Accord Party would not field a presidential candidate in 2027. Describing the remark as an overreach, he insisted that no individual has the authority to determine Nigeria's next president. The former presidential candidate argued that such pronouncements often stem from fear and political survival instincts within Nigeria's highly competitive political environment. He emphasized that political power ultimately belongs to the Nigerian electorate and cautioned against attempts to predetermine election outcomes.

Sowore Steps Down as AAC Chairman

Following Sowore's emergence as the AAC presidential candidate, a party statement confirmed that Samuel Ajeigbe has been appointed as the new National Chairman to replace him. "Omoyele Sowore has officially stepped down as the National Chairman of the African Action Congress. The party hereby welcomes Samuel Ajeigbe as the new National Chairman of our great party," the statement read.

This development marks a significant leadership transition within the AAC as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 elections. Sowore was presented with the party's flag amid cheers from supporters and delegates from various states across the country. After accepting the nomination, Sowore stated that the AAC was founded to build a "new Nigeria" free from corruption, insecurity, and poor governance. He commended party members for remaining committed despite political pressure and economic hardship. Sowore also criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress, accusing it of incompetence and attempting to manipulate public perception ahead of the 2027 elections.
