Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) converged at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja on Sunday for the final collation of results from the party’s presidential primary election. The event precedes the formal presentation of a Certificate of Return to President Bola Tinubu.
High-Level Gathering After Primary
The gathering follows the conclusion of the APC presidential primary held across the country on Saturday. Party officials are expected to officially declare Tinubu the winner of the exercise and unveil him as the ruling party’s candidate for the 2027 general election.
Top figures within the party, including APC governors, members of the National Executive Committee (NEC), the National Working Committee (NWC), lawmakers, ministers, and other senior party chieftains, were seen arriving at the venue ahead of the ceremony. Security presence around the conference centre was heightened as supporters, delegates, and party loyalists trooped in anticipation of the official declaration.
Ceremony Highlights
The event is expected to climax with the presentation of the APC flag and Certificate of Return to Tinubu, formally affirming him as the party’s standard bearer for the next presidential election. An earlier statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga confirmed that the president would receive the certificate during Sunday’s event.
According to party sources, the final collation process began shortly after results from various states and the Federal Capital Territory were submitted to the party’s national collation centre. The atmosphere at the venue was charged with celebrations as party faithful waved APC flags and chanted solidarity songs in support of the president.
Tinubu, who emerged president in the 2023 general election under the APC platform, is expected to seek re-election in 2027 as the ruling party intensifies preparations for the next electoral cycle. The ceremony is also expected to attract members of the diplomatic corps, political allies, traditional rulers, youth groups, and other supporters from across the country.
