The City Boy Movement on Thursday unveiled plans for a nationwide mobilisation campaign aimed at securing the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027, declaring that its members would traverse every part of the country to rally support for the administration's reform agenda.
Vice President Shettima Receives Movement Leaders
The pledge came as Vice President Kashim Shettima received the leadership of the pro-Tinubu support group at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where he commended young Nigerians for standing behind the government's economic reforms and development programmes.
Director-General's Commitment
Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Hon. Francis Oluwatosin Shoga, said the organisation was established to promote awareness of the achievements of the Tinubu administration and build grassroots support for the President ahead of the next presidential election. According to him, members of the movement are convinced that the administration's economic and infrastructure reforms are beginning to yield positive results and deserve sustained public backing.
“We will go to every nook and cranny of Nigeria to mobilise support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027,” Shoga declared. He described the movement as a platform committed to engaging citizens, especially young people, on the policies and programmes of the administration, while strengthening support structures across the federation. Shoga also praised Vice President Shettima for his role in advancing the administration's reform agenda, describing him as a loyal partner in the drive to reposition the country.
Shettima's Remarks on Citizen Participation
Earlier, Shettima applauded the group's efforts in mobilising support for government policies, saying citizen participation remains critical to the success of democratic governance. The Vice President maintained that President Tinubu's policies are largely youth-oriented and designed to address contemporary challenges through innovative and forward-looking solutions. He described the President as a progressive leader with the courage to take difficult decisions in pursuit of long-term national development.
“There is no verdict on a government more convincing than the solidarity of citizens who volunteer to stand for its success,” Shettima said. The Vice President noted that democracy requires more than criticism, stressing that it thrives when citizens actively engage in governance and support policies they believe will improve national outcomes. He particularly commended the City Boy Movement for building support across communities and encouraging broader citizen participation in public affairs.
“We could not be prouder of the pace you have set in mobilising Nigerians to stand with their government, to stand for the promise of the nation, and to stand in defence of the hard choices required to save this country from inherited decline,” he added.
Minister of Youth Development's Praise
Also speaking, Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, lauded Shettima's commitment to youth empowerment and inclusion, describing the Vice President as a strong advocate for young Nigerians. Olawande disclosed that the City Boy Movement now has representatives in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, adding that the group's national headquarters in Abuja would soon be commissioned.
The meeting underscored growing efforts by pro-Tinubu political groups to consolidate grassroots support as the administration approaches the midpoint of its tenure and attention gradually shifts towards the 2027 electoral cycle.
