Ex-APC Chieftain Calls for US to Suspend Security Cooperation with Nigeria

In a bold statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, former All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Publicity Secretary Comrade Timi Frank has urged United States President Donald Trump to halt intelligence sharing and security cooperation with the Nigerian government. This appeal comes amid escalating insecurity and allegations that the federal government possesses detailed knowledge of terrorists' identities and locations without taking decisive action.

Gumi's Allegations Spark Concerns

Frank cited recent remarks by Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, who claimed that Nigerian authorities know the names and whereabouts of every terrorist in the country. "If it is true that the government knows the names of these bandits, knows where they are located and even knows their camps, then Nigerians deserve to know why decisive action has not been taken," Frank stated. He argued that these allegations raise serious questions about the handling of insecurity, suggesting a possible deliberate inaction.

Insecurity as a Profitable Business

The former APC chieftain expressed deep concern over the continuous rise in kidnappings and killings across Nigeria, despite claims that security agencies have intelligence on the perpetrators. He lamented the loss of Nigerian soldiers' lives in the fight against insurgency and banditry, even with military equipment and support from foreign partners. Frank alleged that insecurity has become a "profitable business" for certain individuals within the political system, who prioritize personal gain over public safety.

"They don't care about Nigerians that are dying. They don't care about Nigerians that are being kidnapped. They don't care about the well-being of the people. They don't care about the suffering of the people. They don't care about good governance. All they care about is how they will rig themselves back to power using insecurity as cover," Frank asserted.

Call for US Caution and Suspension of Cooperation

Frank urged the United States to exercise extreme caution in its dealings with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, particularly regarding intelligence sharing. He described the current government as appearing to be "friends with terrorists" and called for an immediate suspension of security cooperation. "I am calling on the United States government to be very careful in its dealings with the current Nigerian administration. The U.S. should suspend intelligence sharing and security cooperation with the Nigerian government and its security chiefs," he emphasized.

Recent Security Incidents Highlight Crisis

The appeal is underscored by recent security breaches, such as the kidnapping of ten people in Ahun and Oro-Ago communities in Kwara State, where gunmen demanded a ₦10 million ransom. Additionally, the arrest of APC chieftain Simbad Ogbuatu for alleged involvement in the kidnapping and killing of a monarch's father in Ebonyi State further illustrates the deepening security crisis. These incidents, according to Frank, demonstrate the deterioration of security despite international assistance.

Frank concluded by warning that the continued lack of action threatens national stability and calls into question the government's commitment to protecting its citizens. He stressed that without transparency and accountability, foreign partnerships may inadvertently enable those profiting from the insecurity.
