Chief Bisi Akande was born on 16 January 1939 in Ila Orangun, Osun State. His political career began when he served as Deputy Governor of Oyo State from 1982 to 1983 under the late Governor Bola Ige. He later became the Governor of Osun State on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy.
