Oyo Assembly Speaker Denies APC Bribery Allegations for Makinde Impeachment Plot
The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, has categorically denied allegations that he received financial inducements from proxies of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to facilitate the impeachment of Governor Seyi Makinde. Ogundoyin described these claims as entirely false and politically motivated, asserting that no money was exchanged in any meeting.
Speaker Rejects "Juicy Offers" and Affirms Loyalty
In a strong rebuttal, Ogundoyin stated that he was presented with tempting offers and opportunities but declined them without hesitation. He emphasized that nothing could sway his conscience or weaken his loyalty to Governor Makinde, the ruling party, and the electorate. "I remain fully committed to upholding the integrity of this House and will not be part of any agenda aimed at destabilising the government we built," he declared.
The Speaker stressed his unwavering commitment to the people's mandate and the administration, assuring that no one would succeed in creating division or derailing their collective goals. He reiterated his dedication to serving the state with honesty and transparency.
Clarification on Olubadan Visit and APC Response
Ogundoyin also addressed separate claims linking his recent visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, to political scheming. He clarified that the visit was purely consultative and had occurred weeks earlier, unrelated to any impeachment discussions.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State chapter of the APC has dismissed the reported impeachment plot as a poorly crafted script designed to distract the public. In a statement by Publicity Secretary Olawale Sadare, the party alleged that the narrative was fabricated to garner undue sympathy for Governor Makinde, who they claim faces political challenges due to his own actions.
Sadare noted that some Assembly members loyal to the governor had denied involvement in the purported plot, which they alleged was sponsored by figures including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Oba Ladoja, and former governor's wife Florence Ajimobi. This development highlights the ongoing political tensions in Oyo State as both sides exchange accusations and denials.
