President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday received former Senate President and Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Primary Elections Committee, Anyim Pius Anyim, at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos. The meeting came just 48 hours after Anyim presided over the primary elections that returned Tinubu as the ruling party's candidate for the 2027 general election.
Post-Primary Consultations
Photographs released by the State House showed Tinubu holding separate meetings with Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu. The visits were part of a series of post-primary consultations at the President's Lagos residence.
Anyim, who served as Returning Officer and Chairman of the Presidential Primary Elections Committee, announced the final results on Sunday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. He declared that total registered voters stood at 12,643,306, with 11,069,756 accredited voters and 11,015,665 votes cast. Tinubu secured 10,999,162 votes, while his sole challenger, businessman Stanley Osifo, garnered 16,503 votes.
SDP Candidate Criticizes Tinubu
Meanwhile, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, sharply criticized Tinubu over the prevailing insecurity in the country. Speaking after a closed-door meeting with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde in Ibadan, Adebayo advised the President to resign if he lacks the capacity to protect Nigerians.
Adebayo's visit to Ibadan was to show solidarity following the invasion of three schools in Oriire Local Council by bandits, where many teachers and students were abducted. He accused the Federal Government of failing in its constitutional duty to safeguard lives and property, describing the situation as part of a wider national security crisis.
"If you cannot secure your state, which is the heart of Yorubaland, what is the use of being in government at all?" Adebayo asked.
Governor Abiodun Praises Inclusive Leadership
Governor Dapo Abiodun, who emerged as the APC candidate for the Ogun East Senatorial District election, expressed gratitude to God, Tinubu, party leaders, and stakeholders for their support. He commended Tinubu's inclusive democratic policies, particularly the insistence on direct primaries, which allowed party members to freely exercise their franchise and fostered a stronger sense of belonging.
Abiodun described the successful primary election as a reflection of the APC's unity, strength, maturity, and democratic spirit in Ogun State.
