In a significant move to strengthen the state's administrative and educational leadership, Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has approved a series of high-level appointments.
New Permanent Secretaries Announced
The governor approved the appointment of nine new permanent secretaries for the Ogun State Civil Service. According to a statement released on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, by the State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, the appointments were made in accordance with constitutional provisions and were based on merit, professionalism, and relevant experience.
Mr. Onasanya clarified that the new Permanent Secretaries were chosen from a group of Directors who successfully completed the Ogun State Executive Leadership Development Pipeline Programme. This program is specifically designed to train and prepare top-tier leaders for the public service.
The newly appointed Permanent Secretaries are:
- Mr. Abdul-Azeez Oludare Ajidele, formerly Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Ministry of Justice.
- Mrs. Olufunmilayo Yetunde Soyoye-Baker, former Director of Agriculture and State Coordinating Director, Cash Transfer Unit.
- Mrs. Adebimpe Foluso Obienu, previous Director of Public Prosecution, Ministry of Justice.
- Dr. (Mrs.) Kafayat Modupe Lawal, the Executive Secretary of the Alternate Medicine Board.
- Mr. Ahmed Bayo Adetona, former Director of Audit, Office of the Auditor-General (State).
- Mr. Idowu Oladapo Onasanya, ex-Director of Administration and Supplies, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
- Mr. Olalekan Peter Taiwo, former Director of Payment, State Treasury Office.
- Mr. Akintomiwa Oluwagbeminiyi Osibodu, previous Director of Administration and Supplies, Teaching Service Commission.
- Engr. Kehinde Olukayode Akintomide, former Director of Industrial Promotion, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.
Boost for Education Sector Leadership
In a parallel development aimed at enhancing the quality of education, Governor Abiodun also approved the appointment of six senior officials to fill vacancies within the state's education boards.
Two Principals-General were appointed to oversee divisions: Mr. Matthew Adeyinka Osilesi for Remo Division and Mr. Yakubu Olorunyomi Lamidi for Ijebu Division.
Furthermore, four Headteachers-General were named for various divisions: Mr. Benjamin Olusegun Alonge (Ijebu Division), Mrs. Aminat Folake Busari (Remo Division), Mr. Olusegun Nathaniel Akapo (Yewa Division), and Mrs. Folake Omolara Onabanjo (Egba Division).
Rigorous Selection Process
The Head of Service detailed that the appointments in the education sector followed a thorough and competitive selection process. This process included oral interviews, comprehensive screening, and physical inspection of schools previously managed by the shortlisted candidates.
The assessment criteria were extensive, covering areas such as academic performance in external examinations, quality of school administration, maintenance of statutory records, staff relations, facility upkeep, and the personal attributes of the candidates.
Mr. Onasanya congratulated all the appointees and urged them to demonstrate dedication, selflessness, and excellence in their new roles. He encouraged them to contribute meaningfully to the development of Ogun State, aligning with the administration's "Building Our Future Together" agenda.
The statement concluded by noting that a swearing-in ceremony for the new appointees will be conducted by Governor Dapo Abiodun at a date to be announced later.
