Ogun Stakeholders Endorse Akingbade for Fourth Term in Assembly
Ogun Stakeholders Back Akingbade for Fourth Term

All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders, traditional leaders, and market women from over 750 villages in Afon town and neighbouring communities in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State have unanimously endorsed Hon. Jemili Adigun Akingbade for another term as the member representing Imeko-Afon State Constituency in the Ogun State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Endorsement Meeting in Afon

Speaking at the endorsement meeting held in Afon, the Secretary of the Afon Youth Movement, Samuel Ogunrinola, said the decision to endorse Akingbade followed extensive consultations, patience, and strategic positioning by leaders in the area. Ogunrinola declared that the era of “politics of whispers” had ended, stressing that the endorsement was a clear and open declaration of support for continuity and sustained development.

Democratic Process and Performance

He emphasised that Akingbade’s previous electoral victories were products of democratic processes, noting that his aspiration for a fourth term is constitutionally valid and should be assessed based on performance rather than political sentiments. “At no point in his political journey has he been imposed on the people. His emergence has always been through the ballot box, reflecting the trust and confidence of the electorate,” he said.

He cited the lawmaker’s contributions to grassroots development, including support for the creation of the Afon LCDA, provision of boreholes, road construction, empowerment programmes, and educational initiatives.

Commendation for Governor and Party

The stakeholders also commended Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for encouraging consensus within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). They specifically referenced the emergence of Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as APC governorship flag bearer, describing it as a reflection of inclusiveness and political wisdom.

Akingbade’s Response

Speaking after the endorsement, Hon. Jemili Akingbade expressed appreciation to party stakeholders and community leaders for their support. “I am excited today because our people are happy and they want the House of Assembly position to remain in Isokan, particularly in the Afon zone,” he said. Akingbade explained that leadership is not about oppressing people but about driving development and uplifting communities. “I have always remained among my people, and we will continue to carry everyone along,” he added.

Traditional Ruler’s Endorsement

Also speaking at the event, the traditional ruler of the town, the Obaladi of Afon, His Royal Majesty, Oba Abdul Rasheed Adewanre, described the gathering as a historic affirmation of unity and commitment to service. “Today’s gathering is glorious because our people came out en masse to confirm the consensus candidate chosen by leaders. He is well known to us and trusted by the community,” the monarch said.

The royal father also commended the administration of President Bola Tinubu for its economic reforms and developmental strides. “Alhaji Jemili Akingbade remains our choice to represent Imeko-Afon in 2027,” he added.

Commitment to Unity

The stakeholders assured Governor Abiodun, Senator Adeola, and Hon. Akingbade of their commitment to mobilising voters and sustaining unity across the constituency ahead of the elections.
