The wife of the Abia State Governor, Priscilla Otti, has officially commissioned and handed over 35 “dignity homes” to indigent widows across all 17 local government areas of the state. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance welfare support for vulnerable residents.
Project Execution and Ceremony
The project, executed through her office, was unveiled during a ceremony held in Umuhute, Ahiake Ndume, Umuahia, which served as the central location for the distribution of the housing units. The event marked a significant milestone in the administration's commitment to social welfare.
Part of Third Year Anniversary
The initiative forms part of activities marking Governor Alex Otti’s third year in office. It is designed to provide shelter and social support for widows identified as indigent across the state, ensuring they have a dignified place to live.
Promoting Inclusive Welfare
According to Priscilla Otti, the exercise reflects ongoing efforts to promote inclusive welfare programmes and improve living conditions for disadvantaged groups in Abia State. She emphasized that the homes are a testament to the government's dedication to uplifting the less privileged.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by local government officials, community leaders, and beneficiaries, who expressed gratitude for the gesture. Each home is equipped with basic amenities to ensure comfort and security for the widows.
